Several key players are missing from United's first-team lineup, with notable absences including Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, and Jonny Evans.

Bruno Fernandes is also suspended for the match against Jose Mourinho’s side, with Erik ten Hag picking a trio of youngsters in his Europa League squad.

Among them is Amass, 17, who is hoping to make his United debut with the England U18 international left-back having not made a first-team appearance yet.

The same is true for right-back Ogunneye, 18, who first appeared for United U18s at the age of 15 and is now looking to make the step up to Ten Hag’s team.

Wheatley, 18, is aiming to make his fourth first-team appearance for United with the teenage striker having played three games to date.

United captain Fernandes lauded Wheatley when he made his United debut in a 4-2 victory over Sheffield United in April.

‘He should be really proud,’ Fernandes told MUTV. ‘I hope for the future he can get more chances.

‘Because if he got the chance – we can talk about injuries and everything – but it’s ’cause the manager trusts him, not just because of the injuries we’ve had.

‘Many of [the youngsters] have been on the bench and they still haven’t had their chance, so if he plays, it’s because the manager has trust in him.’

Meanwhile, speaking in August, Ten Hag described Amass as a ‘big talent’ and hinted that he wasn’t far off a first-team debut.

‘If we train him well, if we coach him well, then in three months it’s possible [he could play in the first team],’ the Dutchman said.

‘In this moment, he needs to catch up and he has to develop some of the skills needed to play for Manchester United… but with big talent it can go very quickly and it is very interesting to see if he is capable of doing this.’
