Liverpool has officially made an offer for Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the goalkeeper eager to secure a move to Anfield before the transfer window closes.
As it stands, the Merseyside outfit are yet to make any additions to their first-team squad ahead of Arne Slot’s debut season, with just over a fortnight remaining of the summer transfer window.
Martin Zubimendi had appeared on the cusp of joining the Reds, only for the Spain midfielder to pull out of a move and stay on at Real Sociedad for the 2024/25 campaign.
However, Liverpool’s hierarchy, namely Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, remain relaxed about the situation and are exploring other avenues, with Mamardashvili, 23, now firmly in their sights.
Reports emanating out of Spain yesterday suggested Liverpool had held talks with Valencia over the weekend regarding Mamardashvili’s potential availability and the Premier League giants were said to be readying an offer for the Georgia international.
According to Relevo, a £35million offer has now been lodged by Liverpool and it is down to Valencia’s owner, Peter Lim, to decide whether to accept or knock back the proposal.
The offer is believed to be ‘very attractive’ for the La Liga club and Mamardashvili is hoping Valencia accept the bid as he feels it is too big an opportunity to turn down.
It’s claimed Liverpool have plans to send Mamardashvili on loan to another Premier League team- with Bournemouth named as a viable option – in order to get the player acclimatised to the rigours of English football, while Alisson is still their No.1.
The Georgian shot-stopper, who shone at Euro 2024 earlier this summer, is being offered a net salary of around £3.4m at Anfield.
Mamardashvili came through Dinamo Tbilisi’s academy ranks as a youngster and sealed a move to Valencia in 2021 on a short-term deal.
After impressing then manager Jose Bordalas, Mamardashvili secured himself a place in Valencia’s starting XI to face Getefa on the opening day of the 2021/22 season.
Since his arrival at the Mestalla, Mamardashvili has made exactly 100 appearances in all competitions for the Los Ches.
On the international stage, Mamardashvili has been capped 21 times by Georgia and played every minute of his nation’s Euro 2024 campaign.
