The Sun reports that Steitden was overruled on a potential transfer for Lille striker Jonathan David, leading to frustration following the collapse of a deal for Aston Villa's Jhon Duran.

Steitden also suggested Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler ahead of Julen Lopetegui, but the Hammers board were unsure about the then St Pauli coach's age.
