New Delhi: Pakistan's talented batter, Babar Azam, received overwhelming support from the crowd on Day 3 of the first Test match against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, August 23. The spectators fervently chanted in favor of Babar, expressing a strong desire for him to reclaim the Test captaincy for Pakistan.
During the second session, fans were heard chanting, “Hamara kaptaan kaisa ho, Babar Azam jaisa ho” (“What should our captain be like? Like Babar Azam”). Interestingly, Shan Masood was named the Test side’s skipper after Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy across formats following the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Although, the 29-year-old was soon reinstated as the white-ball skipper, Masood retained his positioned as the Test skipper.
Coming to the match, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first in the ongoing clash. They were off to a flying start, clinching two wickets in the early phase of the game. The responsibility was on Babar Azam to handle the pressure.
However, the former skipper failed to perform as per the expectations, getting dismissed for a two-ball duck. Babar was caught behind off Shoriful Islam’s bowling while trying to glance a down-the-leg delivery.
Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel delivered outstanding performances, each making a significant impact with the bat by scoring 171* and 141, respectively. Their impressive knocks helped the hosts post a commanding total of 448/6, after which they declared their innings in the final session of Day 2.
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam fell just short of a well-deserved century, getting dismissed after a solid 93-run innings. Meanwhile, middle-order batter Mominul Haque contributed a vital half-century, scoring 50 runs to bolster Bangladesh’s efforts.
