New Delhi: The highly-anticipated Delhi Premier League (DPL) is all set to commence its inaugural edition, providing a valuable platform for up-and-coming cricket players. Renowned Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, who will be playing for Purani Dilli 6, has shared his enthusiasm for the league and its potential to pave the way for budding talents to reach greater heights in their cricketing careers.
Pant, one of India’s most reliable and explosive batters, will take the field on Saturday as his team, Purani Dilli 6, faces off against South Delhi Superstarz in their opening match. The match is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM at the renowned Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium, which will host all 40 matches of the tournament, including 33 men’s and 7 women’s games.
Joining Pant in the squad is veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma, whose experience and skills are expected to bolster the team’s performance. The team’s owner, Mr. Akash Nangia, expressed confidence in his squad, highlighting the blend of seasoned players like Pant and Sharma with promising young talents such as all-rounder Lalit Yadav, batting all-rounder Shivam Sharma, 20-year-old opening batsman and off-spinner Arpit Rana, and right-arm pacer Prince Yadav.
“We are thrilled to kick off the DPL with such an exciting lineup. Having Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant on our side brings tremendous experience and skill, which has inspired and motivated our younger players. We are confident that Purani Dilli 6 will make a strong impact in the league,” said Nangia.
Ahead of the opening match, Pant spoke about the significance of the DPL for players who may not yet have received recognition in larger tournaments like the IPL. “I’m really excited to play in the Delhi Premier League because I feel it offers a big opportunity for players who don’t get recognition in the IPL. When people see you playing in these leagues, they can pick you from here. Hopefully, the young players will have a good journey in the tournament,” Pant stated.
The Delhi Premier League, running from August 17 to September 8, 2024, promises to deliver thrilling cricketing action, with the presence of top-tier players and the excitement of local fans adding to the league’s appeal.
